Double bassist from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Cameron Breiter (he/him) has performed in a variety of musical settings from orchestral, chamber music, and popular music. Cameron has performed with many orchestras across Canada, most notably with his section bass position with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra in the 2023-24 season and as an extra musician with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Cameron has worked with internationally renowned conductors such as Gustavo Gimeno, Earl Lee, Peter Oundjian, Mei-Ann Chen, and Naomi Woo. Cameron is an avid chamber musician as well, primarily as double bassist with Prairie Virtuosi and working with the Art of Time Ensemble’s final production, Sankofa the Soldier’s Tale Retold. Cameron has also worked with a wide variety of artists ranging from popular music, jazz, funk, and rock including Cory Wong, Kishi Bashi, and Dragonette.
Cameron received the 2025 Hillis Prairie Musician Award awarded by the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYO Canada) and first prize in the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2022, being the first double bassist to win in the competition’s history. Cameron is grateful to have spent his last few summers with the NYO Canada from 2022-2025 and at Domaine Forget in 2026 working with leading double bass pedagogues including Etienne Lafrance, Nicholas Walker, and David Allen Moore, and performing with Les Violons du Roy.
Cameron obtained his Bachelor of Music (2021) from the University of Saskatchewan, studying with Richard Carnegie and his Artist Diploma (2026) from The Glenn Gould School studying with Jeffrey Beecher. Cameron is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, studying with Ali Yazdanfar.
When Cameron is not making music, you can find him either spending time with friends and family or reading and/or watching The Lord of the Rings (if watching, only the extended versions!).
