Winner of the 2022 Saskatoon Youth Orchestra (SYO) Concerto Competition, Cameron Breiter (he/him) performed with the SYO as soloist, performing Koussevitzky's Concerto for Double Bass in April, 2023. Cameron performed with The Art of Time Ensemble's final production, Sankofa: The Soldier's Tale Retold, in October of 2024, where from Ludwig-Van Toronto's review of the production, "Sometimes the stars align as they should, everything is in its place, and all's right with the world. That is what this production of Sankofa is — perfection." Cameron attained a section bass position with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra (SSO) from 2023 to 2024, and during his time with the SSO he was a part of the world premier of Vincent Ho's Alto Saxophone concerto, Whimsical Concerto of Fanciful Birds, with soloist Timothy McAllister and conductor Robert Franz.
Upcoming concerts that Cameron is a part of are with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra (RCO), working with conductors JoAnn Faletta, Mei-Ann Chen, Peter Oundjian, and Earl Lee. Cameron has also worked with Tania Miller and William Eddins during his time with the RCO. He will also be performing with the Ontario Philharmonic and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra later in 2026. Cameron attended the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYOC) from 2022 to 2025. During his time with NYOC he toured across Canada at a variety of concert halls, including Koerner Hall, The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, and La Maison Symphonique de Montréal with world-renowned conductors Sascha Goetzel and Naomi Woo.
Cameron's current musical pursuits are performing composers of the 20th century such as Montag, Hertl, and Tubin. He finds the music of this time to be some of the best compositions for the bass, though their music is very little performed or recorded. This period of double bass solo music commands a profound depth and virtuosity that audiences can enjoy, especially as most audiences do not hear a solo double bass very often. Cameron is also passionate about bringing diverse voices to his programming. As well as for his love of Western classical music, Cameron includes music from composers of diverse cultures including Andres Martin, Sarian Sankoh, and Xavier Foley.
Cameron is a Saskatchewan-born artist from Saskatoon. Before the double bass, he began his life of music with the bass guitar playing a variety of styles at a young age. Cameron later started playing the double bass at the age of seventeen, beginning his studies with former Principal Bass of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, Richard Carnegie. Cameron completed his Bachelor of Music Honours degree at the University of Saskatchewan in 2021 and is currently attending The Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music, where he is obtaining his Artist Diploma and studying with Jeffrey Beecher, Principal Bass of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Outside of music making and playing the bass, Cameron likes to go on walks by the Saskatchewan River, eat ice cream with friends, and watch The Lord of the Rings films (only the extended versions!).
